Standards of Academic Progress (SOAP)

TCC is dedicated to providing students with a high quality education in an supportive environment. The purpose of the Standards of Academic Progress (SOAP) is to communicate the College's minimum expectations of academic progress.

TCC's Standards of Academic Progress are as follows:

  • Students with 1-14 credit hours: 1.5 GPA or higher
  • Students with15-29 credit hours: 1.8 GPA or higher
  • Students with 30 or more credit hours: 2.0 GPA or higher

*Students receiving financial aid must also maintain a 67% completion rate of all courses attempted.  The Office of Financial Aid has a separate appeal process for students who fall below the Standards of Academic Progress and completion requirements.  

Failure to meet these standards will result in one of the following academic infractions:

Academic Warning

Your first semester below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Warning:

  • You will be limited to no more than 13 credit hours  
  • You are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Advising Center
  • You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance

Academic Probation

Your second semester below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Probation:

  • You will be limited to no more than 8 credit hours 
  • You are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Advising Center
  • You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
  • “Probation” will be posted to your permanent transcript

Academic Suspension

Your third semester below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Suspension:

  • Enrollment into TCC will be suspended for one full semester (e.g., Fall, Spring, or Summer)
    • You must complete and submit the Online Academic Suspension-Dismissal Appeal Packet before the term for which you want to return to TCC (see below)
  • You are required to meet with an assigned Academic Advisor upon returning to TCC
  • You will be limited to no more than 8 credit hours upon return until GPA raised to 2.0
  • You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
  • “Suspension” will be posted to your permanent transcript

Academic Dismissal

Your fourth semester below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Dismissal:

  • Enrollment into TCC will be suspended for a minimum of one calendar year (12 months)
    • you must complete and submit the Online Academic Suspension-Dismissal Appeal Packet before the term for which you want to return to TCC (see below)
  • You are required to meet with an assigned Academic Advisor upon returning to TCC
  • You will be limited to no more than 8 credit hours upon return until GPA raised to 2.0
  • You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
  • “Dismissal” will be posted to your permanent transcript

 

Academic Suspension-Dismissal Appeals

If you were Academically Suspended or Dismissed, you may submit an Online Academic Suspension-Dismissal Appeal Packet for committee review. If approved, you will be contacted and required to meet with an assigned Academic Advisor before you can register. If the appeal is not approved, you will have to sit out the required period.

The Online Academic Suspension-Dismissal Appeal Packet must be submitted via your TCC Passport Account by the deadline listed below. No late forms will be accepted.

  • Click on Academic Suspension/Dismissal Packet

You will be contacted via your TCC email account. The decision of the Academic Suspension-Dismissal Committee is final.

Deadlines to file Academic Suspension-Dismissal Appeals

 

Fall 2016

Submit packet after 12 noon on 9/14/2016, packet will be reviewed and considered for Spring 2017.

Spring 2017

Submit packet before 5:00PM on 10/21/2016, packet will be reviewed 11/1/2016.

Submit packet before 5:00PM on 11/23/15, packet will be reviewed on 12/2/2016.

Submit packet before 12 noon on 1/6/2017, packet will be reviewed on 1/9/2017.

Submit packet after 12 noon on 1/6/2017, packet will be reviewed on 2/6/2017 for February Express.

 Submit packet after 5:00PM on 2/3/2017, packet will be reviewed for Summer on 3/10/2017
