Orientation FAQs

Is orientation mandatory?

All new, first time in college (FTIC) students, high school dual-enrollment students, and transfer students are required to complete the orientation requirements (online & advising appointment). Transient students, non-degree seeking students, and returning students do not have to complete the orientation process.

I am seeking a certificate here at TCC. Do I need to attend orientation?

No. Only first time in college (FTIC) students, high school dual-enrollment students, and transfer students are required to complete the orientation requirements.

If I am a non-degree seeking student, transient student, or vocational student do I need to attend orientation?

No. Only first time in college (FTIC) students, high school dual-enrollment students, and transfer students are required to complete the orientation requirements.

I'm transferring to TCC from another school. Am I still required to do orientation?

Yes, transfer students still need to complete both the Mandatory online orientation and Advising appointment at TCC.

If I was a dual enrolled high school student at TCC, do I still need to complete the New Student Orientation requirements?

Yes. Once you graduate from high school, you will need to reapply to TCC for your program of study and complete a Residency Affidavit before moving through the orientation requirements. For more info, please email TCC Dual Enrollment Advisor Tulani Honablew, or call (850) 201-6128.

Is childcare provided during my orientation advising appointment?

Childcare is not provided at TCC. Parents are encouraged to make other arrangements for young children. The College assumes no responsibility in the supervision of children and unsupervised children are not allowed on campus.

What do I need to bring to orientation?

You should make sure all documentation for Admission and Financial Aid is submitted before attending the New Student Orientation Advising Appointment, but you may bring any academic paperwork (i.e. - transcripts, test scores) that you need to turn in with the understanding it will take time to process.  Please note it may be helpful to bring a copy of your unofficial high school and/or college transcripts and copies of test scores for advising purposes.

What do I need to wear during orientation?

Dress is casual. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to accommodate plenty of walking. You might also consider tossing in a sweater/jacket or umbrella.

Where do I park for orientation?

Park in any campus lot labeled "Student Parking" which are free and open to park in. Campus maps and directions are available here.

Where is check-in for orientation located?

Orientation check-in will be in the Student Union Advising Center (SU207). See our campus map for more information. Be sure to factor in time for parking and check-in. Students who arrive late may be asked to reschedule.

Can I bring my parents with me to my 0rientation advising appointment?

Please note that parents and guests will not be able to attend your orientation advising appointment.

What if I need to change my on-campus orientation date?

To change your orientation date, please contact us at orientation@tcc.fl.edu.

What if I can't attend any of the on-campus orientation dates?

We provide a variety of dates to accommodate busy schedules. All new students are required to complete New Student Orientation before registering for their first term of classes at TCC.

Will I be able to get a good schedule of classes if I attend a later orientation date?

Classes fill on a first-come, first-serve basis. We recommend students attend orientation as early as they can to have the best possible choice for courses and course times.

Does it matter which on-campus orientation advising appointment I attend?

Students should be sure to register for an orientation that corresponds with the semester they intend to begin classes. The earlier students attend orientation, the more options they have for course selection.
